Spring is here, and it’s time to clean. The City of Saginaw would like to invite residents, neighborhood groups, local businesses and organizations to sign up now to join us as we “Team Up to Clean Up” on Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
The Inspections Division and members of City Council are hosting the 2nd annual “Team Up to Clean Up” event scheduled for Saturday, May 14. The citywide event is an effort to clean up litter and debris in various locations throughout the City. Team Up to Clean Up is a community-wide day of service where residents, neighborhood groups, and local community organizations can come together to help beautify the city. Through grant funding received from the Saginaw Community Foundation, the City will provide volunteers with a t-shirt, gloves, and trash bags to assist with the litter clean up. Refreshments will also be available for our hard working volunteers.

The clean up event will begin at 8 am on Saturday, May 14. All volunteers will meet at the front of City Hall for the kickoff. Volunteers will then break up into groups and head out to selected areas of the city to begin the clean up. Volunteers will return to City Hall between 11-11:30 am for the wrap-up and a hot dog lunch provided by Woody’s Hot Dogs.
Mayor Brenda Moore, who helped plan and organize the event, stressed the importance of this initiative, “We have such a beautiful city and it breaks my heart when I see litter and debris in our streets and neighborhoods. We all need to take greater pride and responsibility for our neighborhoods. Let’s all do our part. I invite everyone to join me in on Saturday, May 14 at 8 am. It’s just a few hours, but it will make a big difference in our community.”
The city reminds residents that we are continuing our use of security cameras to monitor littering and dumping violations in the city. Old couches, TVs, mattresses, or construction debris left in vacant lots or in the street negatively affect the quality of life for our residents and it is illegal. State Law classifies improper disposal of garbage as a misdemeanor with fines up to $500 and/or 90 days incarceration. To report illegal dumping, residents can contact the Code Enforcement Division at (989) 759-1530.
City Residents who wish to dispose of large, bulky materials are encouraged to utilize our monthly Waste Convenience Station located at 1435 S. Washington Avenue on the second Saturday of each month from 8:00am to 12:00pm. Items that can be dropped off include recyclables, building materials, furniture, trash, and other miscellaneous items. There are various ways residents and organizations can get involved, including getting out in the community to help clean it up and properly disposing of unwanted items around their homes. We encourage everyone to join us at City Hall on May 14 as we “Team Up to Clean Up” and we thank you in advance for your help!
